Everything You Need to Know About the Final Season of Glee

Before it ends, Glee is going back to where it all began.

The Fox drama is set to wrap up its six-year run with a 13-episode final season, which will kick off at midseason, and will once again find Rachel (Lea Michele) as an underdog after failing to make it as an actress in New York. So long, Big Apple, hello, Lima!

Fox has just revealed some pretty major details about Glee’s swan song, including why Rachel is back in Ohio, who’s a series regular (and who’s not!) and who we might see return for one final goodbye.

Here’s everything you need to know about the final season of Glee:

1. Here’s the main cast for the final season, per Fox: Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Dot-Marie Jones, Jane Lynch, Kevin McHale, Matthew Morrison, Chord Overstreet and Amber Riley. Yes, it looks like Mercedes is back with us on a full-time basis! Missing from the list is original cast member Jenna Ushkowitz.

2. Everyone is back in Lima, Ohio.

3. Rachel is the new Mr. Schuester (Morrison) as she returns to Lima after failing as a TV actress. Struggling  with her next move, Rachel decides to reinstate and lead the glee club at McKinley after discovering that Sue has banished the arts at the school. (Classic Sue!)

4. While not revealed what exactly they’ll be doing, fans can expect to see Blaine (Criss), Sam (Overstreet) and Schuester all have surprising new gigs in Ohio

5. Already fretting over your favorite Glee star’s name not being in the list of season six’s main cast? Don’t worry too much, as “other alumnae” will return to McKinley, Fox assures.

6. This, of course, includes the recently-married Naya Rivera will have a reduced role as she will no longer be a series regular. But a source tells us Santana will definitely be back in some capacity.

7. In a surprising move, Max Adler is set to reprise the role of Dave Karofsky, the homophobic-bully who turned out to be gay. And in an even more surprising move, we’re hearing he will be Blaine’s love interest and is set to appear in at least four episodes. Sorry, Klaine fans!

8. Making up Rachel’s new New Directions? Five new McKinley sophomores, including twin Cheerios Mason and Madison, who are both super-positive and weird, and football stud Spencer, who is “post-Glee gay.” Rounding out the glee club will be the unconventionally pretty and drily funny Jane, who joins New Directions after she’s turned away by the Warblers, and the shy and chubby Roderic, the show’s new underdog who has a voice like Otis Redding.

Glee’s final season will air at midseason on Fox.

Fox Press Package (Glee)

mjsbigblog:

Entering its sixth and final 13-episode season, GLEE is a musical comedy about a group of ambitious and talented young adults in search of strength, acceptance and, ultimately, their voice.

Over the last five years, the series has followed a dynamic group of high school students from the halls of McKinley to the mean streets of New York City, as they embarked on life after high school. This season, after her humiliating failure as a TV actress, New Directions’ original star, RACHEL BERRY (Golden Globe Award nominee Lea Michele), comes home to Lima to figure out what she wants to do next. Upon discovering that SUE SYLVESTER (Emmy Award winner Jane Lynch) has banished the arts at McKinley, Rachel takes it upon herself to reinstate and lead the glee club. Meanwhile, BLAINE ANDERSON (Darren Criss), SAM EVANS (Chord Overstreet) and WILL SCHUESTER (Matthew Morrison) have all found surprising new gigs in Ohio. Throughout the season, other alumnae also will return to McKinley.

Since its debut, GLEE has become a bona fide cultural phenomenon, received prestigious honors, including a Golden Globe Award and a Peabody Award, and singlehandedly made glee clubs cool again. The series boasts critical acclaim, a die-hard fan base, two Grammy Award nominations, two Platinum and five Gold albums, more than 53 million songs and more than 13 million albums sold worldwide, two sold-out concert tours, a 3-D movie, four Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes, including the award for Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical. The series reached its milestone 100th episode this past season with a memorable rendition of the hit that put the show on the map, “Don’t Stop Believin’.”

GLEE has attracted A-list guest stars, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Shirley MacLaine, John Stamos, Kristin Chenoweth, Olivia Newton-John, Britney Spears, Neil Patrick Harris, Peter Facinelli, June Squibb, Demi Lovato and Adam Lambert, among many others.

Glee Season 6 Plan Revealed: Rachel Revives New Directions and More

Glee is saying “bye bye” to the Big Apple as it heads into its sixth and final season, with Rachel and the gang returning to the hallowed halls they once called home — after a six-month time jump, of course.

1. Rachel, following her “humiliating failure as a TV actress” will return to Lima and “reinstate and lead” the glee club.

2. Kurt will follow Miz Berry back home, helping to return New Directions to its former glory.

3. Sue will remain the show’s main antagonist, banishing all arts from McKinley High.

4. Blaine and Sam will also find themselves in Lima with Mr. Schue, and all three are said to have found “surprising new gigs.” (Rumor has it, Mr. Schue will lead Vocal Adrenaline, while Blaine will head up the Warblers.)

5. Series regulars include: Chris Colfer (Kurt), Darren Criss (Blaine), Dot-Marie Jones (Beiste), Jane Lynch (Sue), Kevin McHale (Artie), Lea Michele (Rachel), Matthew Morrison (Will), Chord Overstreet (Sam) and Amber Riley (Mercedes).

Your thoughts on Glee‘s farewell season? How are you hoping to see it all end?

About spoilers

blackswanpatronus:

I sincerely hope that these spoilers aren’t true but unfortunately the speculations are reaching a level where they can’t be ignored.

I urge Fox or the Glee writers to be upfront about a potential romance between Dave Karofsky and Blaine because the ramifications of such a relationship go far…

Glee Season 6 Spoilers – Blaine/Karofsky Romance?

mjsbigblog:

  • The time jump between the Season 5 finale and the Season 6 premiere is only 6 months.
  • Rachel (Lea Michele) AND Kurt (Chris Colfer) are leading New Directions. Kurt is earning NYADA credit for his efforts. So, yes, he’s still a student.
  • Blaine (Darren Criss) is leading The Warblers at Dalton. I don’t know the circumstances that bring him to Dalton, or whether he is still a NYADA student or not.
  • I’m not sure why Rachel is in Ohio either, but we can probably assume she returned home from Los Angeles after her pilot failed.
  • Will Schuester (Matt Morrison) is heading up Vocal Adrenaline
  • Karofsky (Max Adler) will be Blaine’s new love interest. Max is locked in for at least half a season’s worth of episodes. I am not clear on whether Blaine and Kurt are together or apart when season 6 begins, or whether they break up later. I also don’t know whether Blaine/Karofsky are together in the first episode, or something develops later.  I am working to find out answers to these questions.
  • There are no definite plans to use the Season 4/5 newbies. HOWEVER they will most likely come back near the end of the season for one or two episodes. I am guessing there will be a big reunion of Glee alumni at series finale time.
  • The five new McKinley High kids will be incorporated into the first two episodes to some degree, but their story lines are still being developed.
  • I don’t have plot specifics at this time on other characters–Santana (Naya Rivera), Artie (Kevin McHale), Sam (Chord Overstreet) etc. The minute I know something, I’ll post it here.
